Explanation of our service

Our mission is to provide Doctors' visits to your home or hotel to ensure that your children are well taken-care-of at your convenience. If you are visiting from another country, we are happy to check our network of Pediatricians (and Family Doctors) to provide medical care at your convenience. Click here for more information about our service for patients who are NOT covered by OHIP.

We adhere to both the letter and the intent of Canadian and Ontario Health Insurance laws, as we are firm believers and supporters of single-payer coverage for all. As such, we remain available for scheduled visits in the clinic for no extra fees. The only additional fees we charge, for travel outside our usual geographic service zone, are for travel.

In other words, your medical care is covered by OHIP but the travel fee is not.

Per Health Insurance Act, RRO 1990 Regulation 552 section 24(1) paragraph 1:

"Exclusions

24. (1) The following services rendered by physicians or practitioners are not insured services and are not part of insured services unless, in the case of services rendered by physicians, they are specifically listed as an insured service or as part of an insured service in the schedule of benefits or, in the case of services rendered by optometrists, they are specifically listed as an insured service or as part of an insured service in the schedule of optometry benefits:

1.  Travelling to visit an insured person outside the usual geographical area of practice of the person making the visit."

Medical documentation: Kids On Call stores no personal medical information (in fact, almost no information at all - other than contact info for the caregiver and the child's first name). All medical information is the responsibility of the Doctor who sees you. All of our Doctors use EMR (electronic medical records) that adhere to the standards of Ontario Medical practice.

SMS (and other) communication: we use SMS messaging for scheduling and informational purposes only. By contacting us, you automatically "opt-in" to receive details about your visit by SMS. If you prefer to not receive these messages, you may opt-out but we recommend against it, as it helps to make care-delivery more efficient. There is no medical information shared by SMS; only logistical, such as "Your Doctor will arrive in twenty minutes." We do not send any unsolicited communication by telephone, SMS, email or other.
